FlipaClip: Draw 2D Animation is an app designed for creating 2D animations and drawing cartoons. It enables users to bring their drawings to life by creating short animated movies and flipbooks. The app supports frame-by-frame animation, offering a blend of traditional flipbook simplicity with tools found in professional-grade animation editors, allowing for detailed control over each frame and the creation of various animated content, from simple doodles to more complex scenes.
Drawing Tools and Canvas Options
The app provides a comprehensive set of drawing tools for sketching and painting. Users can access brushes, a fill tool, lasso, eraser, ruler, text, and shape tools to develop their visual ideas. It supports painting on custom canvas sizes, giving flexibility to projects. For those using compatible hardware, FlipaClip also offers pressure-sensitive stylus support, including for the Samsung S Pen and SonarPen, to facilitate more precise and natural drawing experiences.
Animation Workflow and Features
FlipaClip features a frame-by-frame animation timeline, which grants users total control over their sequences. An onion skin tool is available to aid in creating smooth transitions between frames by showing previous and next frames faintly. For managing complexity in drawings, the app supports up to 10 layers, with three layers accessible in the free version. It also includes free glow effects and blending modes to enhance visuals. Users can import photos or videos to create rotoscope animations, tracing over existing media. The app’s project interface allows for a unified view where drawings, frames, and audio can be seen and edited together. It offers two distinct layouts: a Classic view for focused work and a Studio view for a full timeline perspective. Users can draw outside the main canvas area to keep references visible beside their active scene. Recent updates have introduced the ability to stretch a frame or group of frames and loop frames, reducing the need for repetitive copy-pasting. Additionally, the app includes an undo function that extends to actions like deleting frames or layers, and projects are designed to be lighter, consuming less storage space. A recently introduced AI-powered tool called Magic Cut is also available.
Export Capabilities
Once an animation is complete, FlipaClip supports exporting the final output in several common formats. Users can export their animated videos as MP4 files, create animated GIFs, or save individual frames or sequences as PNG images with transparency.
